In Transit was filmed in London as I walked up and down Whitechapel High St. between August and November 2024. I held my phone/camera in front of me, glancing between it and the street. No one looked up or noticed that I was filming, assuming that, like many others, I was looking at my phone rather than with it. I walked as I filmed so the resulting video seems to pull the viewer along, especially as it is rush hour in many of the clips. For part of the video I used a window in the underground train as an impromptu cinema screen. The train moves from right to left while the screen/window shows forward movement.

This is the first video I have made without inviting collaboration. For it, the street and its inhabitants have become unwitting collaborators. There are many random encounters but no one stands out and there is a strong sense of everyone understanding “people weaving”.
