Attempts to re-enactment tourists' photographs.

Summer - 2000

For several months in the summer of 2000 I visited tourist sites, attempting to see what they saw. This is one of the claims for the camera: that it enables us to see the world through another person’s eyes. In this case I intruded on my subjects’ (willed) privacy, trying to photograph what they photographed. The resulting images suggest another possible function of the camera, that of the voyeur. I am taking their photographs, literally, without their knowledge or permission. If they knew what I was doing they would feel that their private space was being invaded-and they would be right. Even though what they are doing is there for all to see, an invisible boundary remains.
